The Traveling Child Goes to Children’s Book Series

When I started blogging in 2016 I never imagined I’d be where I am now. Throughout my career I noticed if you type in family travel in google images you’ll see a trend and what you’ll notice is family’s that look like mine are missing.

Instead of complaining about it and letting Google images dictate the norm I decided I wanted to take our positive images off the internet and into homes. To help diversify the book shelves of all families regardless of race but to also let little black girls and little black boys know the world is theirs and they can go every and anywhere they choose.

The first book in the series is The Traveling Child Goes to Rio de Janeiro based on our 2018 trip to Brazil. I hope you love our books, told from the view point of my daughters Jordyn and Kennedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun book for traveling with kids Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2020
We are a family of travelers and my 4 year old son loves this book! I believe that it is important for him to have diversity in his reading list. We both love how informative and engaging it is, and the illustrations are a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next installment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and well written children’s book Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2019
What an awesome book for children! As soon as the book came in the mail my friend’s 5 year old daughter and I read it together. She loved the illustrations and learning about what the “sister-friends” did in Brazil. By the end of the book, she was ready to collect her passport stamps and fly on a plane too. The author did a fantastic job of incorporating practical knowledge of traveling to help children learn about what it’s like, step by step, to visit a different country and telling the story of a family who goes on an adventure. We look forward to the next release of the Traveling Child Goes To… to find out where the sisters will travel next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Representation & Interesting Facts – A Must-Have Book for Black Children Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2019
I received this book in the mail today and handed it to my seven-year-old daughter, Madison, to read aloud. She grabs the book and immediately says, “look, mommy, it’s me and Morgan!!”. That alone was one of the reasons why I had to have this travel book because it featured a family that looks like mine. Representation is so important, and I knew the cover alone would resonate with my girls and it did. So, so exciting.

Even beyond the imagery, every single page is full of culture and facts about Rio de Janeiro. I really enjoyed reading this book with my girls and I look forward to more books in this series as I’m certain they’ll be great to use as learning tools to share information about places around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kids book Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2019
I just read your book to my two year old and it was great. I love how informative the book is about Brazil’s culture and landmarks. I haven’t been yet but I could envision it through their little eyes. I love the adventures and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series. Keep inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for little travelers Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2020
I love that this book has characters that my daughter can see herself in! It’s so important for young black children to see themselves in spaces that aren’t often widely displayed. My daughter loves having this as a part of her list of bedtime books. You won’t be disappointed once you place your order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really sweet book Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2019
This is such a cute book!! It is great for previewing travels for young children. It’s laid out very clearly much the way social stories are for kids. I think this series would be particularly good for children about to travel to the location being visited, but it’s cute even for kids that don’t have travel planned yet. My daughter said “ok we need to put Rio on our list of places to go” after she read it!
