Well hello there! I’m Monet, writer behind this family travel blog, The Traveling Child, and mama of two. In addition to my own website I am a contributor for The Points Guy and Essence.com and author of the children’s book series The Traveling Child Goes to. Check out my first book The Traveling Child Goes to Rio de Janeiro! My motto is “if kids live there, kids can visit” and you’ll often find our family exploring destinations most don’t consider “kid friendly”.
I graduated from the University of Florida with my Bachelors Degree in Sports Management and went on to earn my Masters Degree from Georgetown University. Currently, our family resides in South Florida. Having Jamaican roots I’m kind of an expert in beautiful beaches and you can often find our family sitting on one! Have questions or want to connect? Why The Traveling Child
When I was pregnant with my first child I heard so many times that my husband and I’s wanderlust ways would come to an end once our daughter was born. We knew that could not be our my life and that we would want to continue traveling with our kids. We took our eldest on her first flight at 6 weeks and traveled to Colombia with our 2nd at 10 weeks. Many parents think it’s impossible to travel with children so I started The Traveling Child. Created to inspire parents to explore the world with their kids we provide tips to make travel with children easier. Our motto is “if kids live there, kids can visit”. You’ll often see us visiting destinations that most don’t consider kid-friendly but we’ll show you why they are!
Another area of concern we heard was that traveling with kids is too costly. This myth discourages many families from even considering traveling together. As a very budget conscious family we’ve mastered making family travel affordable. Check out my tips on planning a family trip that won’t break the bank here.
How The Traveling Child Has Evolved
Originally The Traveling Child focused solely on family travel. However, since our readers are parents not children our audience wanted more. They expressed interest in “baecations” and couples travel as well as mommy breaks. Mommy breaks are where moms take trips solo or with friends and no kids. These trip itineraries provide inspiration for us to remember our lives outside of parenthood. Parents need a little me time and there is no need to feel guilty about that.
Meet My Family
Jordyn, Ms. Personality
Jordyn has the biggest personality I’ve ever seen. She is full of energy, super outgoing, and wants to be everyone’s friend. She is down for any adventure and one of the bravest kids I know. She’s conquered zip-lining, surf lessons, parasailing and more all by the age of four.
Kennedy, Boss Lady
Kennedy or boss lady as we affectionately call her at home is one of the sweetest, funniest, little two-year-olds I’ve ever met. She loves everything PJ Masks and sings The Middle at least 25 times a day. If there is a pool she is in it and she always has a smile on her face. She is the one who keeps us all in check which is why we call her boss lady!
The Hubby, James
James also earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Florida. We met my freshman year in our Intro to Sports Management class! He’s always down to come along for the crazy adventures I plan and always supports my dreams and aspirations. He is definitely the bravest one of the two of us and always finds everything I lose! After working in the sports industry for 9 years my love of travel has finally rubbed off on him. He now works in sales in the tourism industry.
